Welcome to the Houston Academics, Inc. 2007 College Prep Annual Summer Jumpofftm to be held on campus at UNC - Chapel Hill

Houston Academics, Inc.'s College Preparatory Summer Jumpoff 2007 (CPSJ) is a  specialized 7-day intensive summer camp designed for motivated and academically gifted high school students who are aiming to apply to the top colleges in the U.S.  Houston Academics, Inc's 2007 College Prep Summer Jumpoff  is held in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on the campus of UNC Chapel Hill.  CPSJ will teach students how to prepare themselves to be the strongest, organized and most competitive applicants possible for college admissions in the near future.  Led by a full-time teaching staff of over 15 Harvard University, MIT, Suffolk University, BU, Spelman College and other Ivy League graduates and current students, CPSJ provides a rare opportunity for young students to live together with these top-quality counselors in a fun, culturally enriched, and inspiring learning environment.  Camp students will be mentored by their advice and guidance as they share their own personal experiences of preparing for and attending Ivy League colleges.  CPSJ offers a unique, life-changing experience for young students.  Unparalleled in quality, content, and staff experience, the Camp will educate students with the most updated college admissions news, provide a clear direction and focus for each student, and motivate them to work hard toward a successful future.

Here's how the Houston Academics College Prep Summer Jumpoff works.  College-bound sophomores, juniors and seniors from around the world come to live on the campus of UNC Chapel Hill and participate in a 7-day admissions program staffed by college counselors from America's top college prep schools, expert writing instructors and SAT coaches.  What makes this such an effective and fun approach to prepare for college admissions is that, while you're preparing your applications and learning about college admissions, you'll be living with friends in the dorms, eating in the university dining halls, studying in the University libraries, working out in campus fitness centers and experiencing college life at one of America's top campuses.  It's not only the best way to prepare winning college applications; but it's the best way to minimize the pressure and remind yourself why you're applying to college in the first place.

Specialized Small Group, Individual Coaching and Summer College Tours Included!!

Every Houston Academics Inc. College Prep  student works one-on-one with an expert college counselor throughout the program. The program also includes a specialized writing course that will help you craft memorable and effective application essays.

Houston Academics counseling workshops and other special features of the summer program include: One-On-One Guidance Counseling, SAT Prep,  Several Personal Statement Writing Courses, Regional College Campus Visits, Videotaped Mock Interview Sessions, Admissions Case Studies and Analysis, Guest Admissions Speakers, Financial Aid Workshops and other fun social outings in and around the Greater Chapel Hill, NC area.

College Tours

College touring is a major component of the Summer College Prep Camp, and is instrumental in deciding which schools to apply to, or after being accepted, which school to attend.  CPSJ is held every summer in Chapel Hill, North Carolina right on the campus of UNC Chapel Hill.  Our prime academic location provides many CPSJ students an opportunity to visit and spend time at these schools in North Carolina, a chance that many students would not usually have.  Chapel Hill's proximity to other colleges also allows CPSJ to tour nearby schools such as Duke and NC State.   CPSJ students will attend each school's official admissions information session, usually followed by an official tour of the campus led by current students at the school.  These sessions and tours give students a general overview of each school's unique academic and residential structure, as well as a feel for each campus.  In addition, the college students leading the campus tours are also available on campus to answer any questions from CPSJ students.  This year students will tour UNC Chapel Hill, Duke University, NC State, North Carolina Central University and Bennett College (one of only two historically Black colleges in the U.S. exclusively for women).

Unparalled Faculty, Unparalled Results!

The daily sessions are a major component of the Camp.  These sessions offer a careful look at each component of the college application process, including extracurricular activities, teacher recommendations, personal statements, interviews, etc.  There may be multiple sessions in one day depending on the day's schedule. Through in-depth academic seminars and hands-on workshops for every aspect of the college application, CPSJ provides exclusive strategies and cutting-edge information to help high school students get a head-start on the competition.

The daily academic prep sessions are led by Kristina Anne Houston, M.S.E.d as well other noted academic professionals from the Boston, Massachusetts area and Chapel Hill area.  Recently selected by Harvard College to participate as an independent admissions consultant to the 2006 Harvard College Summer Institute on College Admissions, Kristina Houston has formerly held executive level positions with LEAP (Holland, Michigan), the American Red Cross (Peer Educator of the Year), and the Framingham, MA Public Schools.  In 2004, Kristina  Houston served as Executive Director of Northeastern University's MathPower Academic Enrichment Summer Program.  Kristina Anne Houston is a member of the Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA) and the Massachusetts Teacher's Association (MTA).  Kristina Houston's professional experience gives her a unique perspective that she enjoys sharing with students, to motivate and prepare them to be the strongest applicants possible. Spending a week together with Ms. Houston and her staff, CPSJ students have a rare opportunity to see and understand the admissions process from a real insider's perspective.

CPSJ is unique in making sure to follow-up after these sessions with daily Small Group Meetings, led by a Counselor.  We are concerned about each and every student and want to ensure that every student fully understands the issues involved in college admissions.  CPSJ students have the opportunity to discuss and ask questions on any issues from the sessions with their Small Group Counselors.  The Counselors are all current students or graduates of the nation's best colleges; they are living case studies and are great resources for students at the camp. CPSJ also collaborates with other companies, such as the NAACP and the Black College Expo in the sessions to give the students the best preparation possible for their future college plans.
